Spilled milk

Oh! It was a sad day here today.

I’m chalking it up to a live and learn day.

I received two half gallons of almond milk from the food pantry the other week. Since I’d already bought a gallon of milk, which was open in the fridge, I decided to freeze the almond milk, as the date on it was about to expire.

I checked the carton for any info on NOT freezing it, but didn’t see any.

So, two days ago, I removed one of the half gallons from the freezer to defrost. The carton had buckled a bit and one of the seams looked ripped enough that the milk would leak as it defrosted. So I put it in a plastic container until it could defrost and be used.

It took forever (!) for that almond milk to defrost. Finally, yesterday, it was liquid in there that I could hear. So I opened it up, but as I looked in, it look “funny.” Kind of like something was floating in there.

I pour it into pitcher and ewwww. Lumps of … stuff. And shreds of it too. Plus something that looked like oil. I shook the container a bit and more of the stuff swirled around inside the carton. Ugh. It was spoiled. Down the commode it went. Damn.

I had no idea how it or when it spoiled. I hoped the second carton wasn’t like the first.

OK, time to try to defrost it.

After a few hours in the sink, in case it leaked, I opened it. Ugh, the same thing. What a waste. I was not very happy.

I still don’t know how it spoiled or why.

I really wanted to have that stuff, as I’d never had any before.  😦

p.s. I won’t post a picture for you this time! Ick.
